MOUNTAIN ON THE OTHER SIDE

TWO DRIFTERS

Anna Liu, a young jewellery designer, holds a BFA from Temple University’s Tyler School of Art and an MA from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Her career is driven by a profound love for the creative process and experimentation, and she draws endless inspiration from the intricate textures and subtle beauty of the materials around her.

For Anna, jewellery is more than an accessory; it is a vessel of memory, a story captured in metal. The mountains of her youth, once a quiet yet powerful presence in her life, have
become a lasting source of emotional inspiration. Each piece she creates is a tribute to those morning scenes, a celebration of the happiness held within those slopes. Through her work, Anna invites others to embark on a journey of remembrance, using jewelLEry as a bridge to the essence of home. Though the path back may blur with time, her creations remain—a steadfast reminder, patiently carrying the essence of where she began, always awaiting her return.

BASIN

BASIN

I was born in a small city on the outskirts of the Sichuan Basin in China, a place of steep stairs and winding slopes that once felt unremarkable to me. Growing up, I didn’t recognise the depth of its beauty. Yet every morning, the endless stretch of mountains became an indelible part of my life, forming a sanctuary that would shape who I am. These mountains, silent and steadfast, held the laughter of family days and the peace of moments spent in solitude, becoming a source of comfort and grounding. Over time, they evolved from a familiar backdrop to an
emotional anchor—a reminder of my origins even as life took me to unfamiliar places. When I began my journey in jewelry design, it was this bond with my hometown that guided my work.

MOUNTAIN ON THE OTHER SIDE

To me, jewellery is more than adornment; it is a medium that captures emotions and stories, much like the mountains that have witnessed generations of memories. My pieces aim to evoke the warmth, strength, and quiet power of those mountains, channeling their essence through form, texture, and material. Each design resonates with the landscapes that shaped me, a tribute to the beauty and resilience of nature. As I move forward in life, I imagine that one day I may forget the paths back to my hometown, the sound of wind through the valleys, or even the faces that once filled my days. Yet, the jewellery I create will always guide me home, a reminder that my roots are steadfastly grounded in that mountainous landscape. Just as metals catch the light and textures invite touch, my designs are enduring links to my past and symbols of belonging. I believe we all have our own “mountains”—places, people, or moments that evoke a profound sense of connection. My aim is to craft jewelry that speaks to these emotional anchors, turning personal memories into shared experiences. In the end, each piece I create becomes a story, resonating beyond mere adornment to remind us of where we come from, wherever life may lead us. Through my work, I hope to offer others the comfort, inspiration, and lasting connection to their own roots and memories, just as those mountains have given me.
