These pieces of wood come from the time when the craftsmen of Kamakura Carving. They created their works using the original technique “Tatakinomi ”.
They are usually made of scrap materials, but each piece has unique chisel marks on them.
Kamakura Carving works are engraved and then painted with lacquer. since lacquered Kamakura Carving looks profound and expensive, there is a sense of distance from people. Nomoto dares to colour them vividly using Japanese paints. This is because she would like to make Kamakura Carving more casual, more familiar. The strong mark by the chisel and the bright colour contrast are an interesting design.
I hope that this jewellery will reduce the distance between us and traditional crafts.
Kamakura Carving : Famous traditional crafts in Japan since the Kamakura period (1192 - 1333).
At that time, craftsmen originally carved Buddha statues. Now the products are mainly bowls and trays.
