Esther began making jewellery during her university studies, where she initially majored in Chinese Language and Literature at Hong Kong Baptist University. As she learned more, she realised the limitations of text and words and sought alternative forms of expression. She discovered that art jewellery serves as a unique medium for communication. She later obtained a Master of Visual Arts from Hong Kong Baptist University.

Jewellery has emotional and personal importance. Although it is usually connected to happy moments, Esther understands that life is also characterised by more profound encounters. She creates physical recollections of the most important parts of one’s life by transforming these ephemeral experiences into beautiful jewellery.

DAPPING CIRCLE NECKLACE | 2024

Living in the bustling, technology-driven city of Hong Kong, individuals are often overwhelmed by various distractions. Esther’s creations emphasise handcrafted repetition, creating a meditative practice that allows her to engage in self-reflection and discover moments of inspiration within the routine of daily life. While jewellery traditionally celebrates joyous occasions, Esther acknowledges that life is punctuated by deeper experiences. She transforms these moments into pieces of art jewellery, serving as tangible reminders of the most pivotal aspects of one’s existence.

THE CIRCLE SERIES RINGS | 2024

Esther believes that jewellery is more than the material value, but the story behind it. She combines different materials and symbols to rethink the relationship between viewers and wearers. Her creative language usually involves circles, mirrors, and silver, and she is also interested in exploring different materials to showcase contradictions.
