FLÓRA CIRA
Cluster Contemporary Jewellery Exhibitor | December 2024
Flóra Valéria Szöllősi-Cira is a contemporary artist and designer whose creations often carry profound meanings, revealed only when one takes the time to engage with her work. At the same time, she finds great joy in designing more wearable, everyday—yet distinctive—jewellery. These two creative approaches are not entirely separate; they occasionally intersect and merge into a single piece.
Flóra's perspective on jewellery is shaped by her artistic upbringing. Although her parents are not in art-related professions, her high school experience fostered her deep connection to the arts. She attended the II. Rákóczi Ferenc Secondary School in Budapest’s II district, where her classes emphasised seeing the world with depth and sensitivity. This early exposure ignited her love for art.
Her interest in design developed later when she pursued her studies at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, Budapest (MOME), earning a bachelor’s degree in jewellery design.
Currently, Flóra is advancing her career by studying for a master’s degree in jewellery and gemstones in Idar-Oberstein, Germany. There, she is exploring how to merge the worlds of art and design—fields that do not always overlap but, in her case, often come together seamlessly.
Fuck You, Art
I hate art. Well, that’s not true at all. I love art. I believe it holds immense importance. Art educates. It raises questions. And that is the key to keeping our society—and ourselves—healthy.
So yes, art matters. A lot.
But what I do hate is the pretentious artist society that sets itself apart from everyday people, acting like gods, as if they are the professors of everything. That attitude irritates me deeply.
I want to be one of the everyday people. And I am. I want to be with them, live with them, breathe with them. And I want to make art understandable for them.
