REFLECTING POOL (ABYSS) BROOCH | 2023

Luba Sokolovsky’s journey into jewellery making was unplanned but felt natural. She originally studied medicine and worked in IT, but creativity was always her outlet. Over time, her passion for art and writing grew stronger, and 15 years ago, she fully committed to her artistic path.

Her work expanded to include paintings, sculptures, photo compositions, and multimedia projects, gaining international attention. For each exhibition, she designed outfits and matching accessories for herself, which unexpectedly became as popular as her art, leading her to jewellery making.

Luba is self-taught, but don’t be fooled—she’s a master at teaching herself new skills, and some might even call her a professional autodidact. Starting with leather, she soon experimented with copper, stones, and silver. Today, she continues to explore unconventional materials, always pushing the boundaries of design and technique.

What do I want to express?

For Luba, this is the question that begins every creative process, whether through images or words. Sometimes the material itself guides the way, shaping the form and details. You just need to take a closer look, listen carefully, and follow its lead. But more often, the desire to create comes from an idea, a thought, or a feeling. Then, the vision of the final result appears, and that’s when the real journey begins: finding the right techniques, choosing materials, diving into the process—and often learning new skills along the way.

THROUGH THE TIME PENDANT | 2023

Like her poetry, paintings, and sculptures, making jewellery is just another way to communicate with the world, to tell a story, share a thought, or capture a feeling. It’s no surprise that similar themes emerge across her work. One idea sparks another, and imagination takes flight. The most exciting and rewarding part for her is seeing how her creations resonate with the person they are made for—the reader, the viewer, and especially the one who chooses and wears her jewellery.

That’s something deeply personal and significant. For Luba, it’s not just an accessory—it’s wearable art that allows both the maker and the wearer to express themselves, create endless variations of stories and meanings, and form a deep, personal connection with her creation.
