Mengyuan holds a BA in Fashion Jewellery from the London College of Fashion and a Master’s degree in Metal & Jewellery from the Royal College of Art, where she honed her technical skills and developed a deep understanding of materials, form, and craftsmanship. Her work is distinguished by its ability to evoke emotion through the tactile qualities of metal and stone. Through her jewellery, she seeks to transform intangible emotions into tangible, wearable art, capturing moments of beauty, vulnerability, and connection in each piece. Her jewellery transcends ornamentation, becoming a personal and emotional narrative embedded in the wearer’s experience.

Mengyuan Xia views jewellery as a medium for connecting with the viewer’s mind, with its appeal rooted in the inherent proximity it has to human beings—both physically and psychologically. Jewellery carries a strong emotional resonance, and in Make a Wish, Mengyuan creates interactive pieces that invite the viewer to engage closely and personally, fostering a sense of empathy.

Using symbolic cues, she explores subtle feelings of loss, absurdity, and the repetitive pursuit of hope and solace in life, presenting these emotions through interactive visualisations. Her creativity is driven by her sensitivity to emotion and her keen observation of life. Mengyuan excels at crafting story-like backdrops, weaving contradictions into her work, and inviting the audience to reflect and engage with her vision.
