ROMANTIC BROOCH | 2024

Michèle Audet’s joyful, whimsical, and often colourful jewellery emerges from a process of experimentation where metals, ceramics, gems, enamel, and natural materials converge, resulting in creations that resemble living creatures. Her imagination is deeply influenced by the circus world and animated films, which have fascinated her since childhood. While she creates various forms of adornment, brooches are her preferred medium due to the freedom of formal expression they provide. Combining figurative elements with the inherent materiality of jewellery, her pieces evolve organically through her explorations.

Despite her natural inclination toward creativity, Michèle initially pursued a career in the medical field while practising various art forms as a hobby. However, when a vision problem forced her to leave her career in dentistry, she discovered a passion for jewellery-making and decided to fully reorient her professional path. In 2024, she completed a college diploma in fine craft and became a professional member of the Conseil des métiers d'art du Québec. Drawn to contemporary jewellery as a platform for creative expression, she has been actively participating in exhibitions across Canada and the United States since 2022.

Michèle Audet aims to bring a smile to our faces with her playful creations, often featuring scalloped shapes combined with naïve elements. Driven by curiosity about how things work, she enjoys offering glimpses of her creative process. Her aesthetic is influenced by her vision problem: unable to fully appreciate regular and symmetrical shapes, she instead expresses herself through spontaneous, lively, and organic lines. For Michèle, imperfection is more alluring than perfection, reflecting our shared human condition.

This perspective inspires her to question our relationship with perfection, particularly regarding our image, the contrast between our private selves and public projections, and the rejection of what is now deemed unworthy of display. As a thoughtful observer, she explores the pursuit of physical beauty and eternal youth, fuelled by advancements in technology and medicine. Michèle reflects on the risks and challenges this quest poses to physical and mental well-being. Yet, her critique is tempered with kindness, acknowledging our struggles as imperfect beings navigating a world that often demands unattainable standards.
