NETA BEN BASSAT
Cluster Contemporary Jewellery Exhibitor 2022 & 2024
Neta Ben Bassat Kagan is a jeweller and designer specialising in both jewellery and objects. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A) in Jewellery Design from the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design and her Master of Design (M.Des) from Shenkar College. Neta also runs her own jewellery brand under her name.
Her work delves into the boundaries between object and person, using form, materials, and methods of creation to explore human essence in an elegant harmony that aims for maximum impact. Combining 3D design and printing technologies with traditional jewellery-making techniques, Neta blends innovation with craftsmanship.
A recurring theme in her work is the dialogue between machine-made and handmade craftsmanship: can an object designed and created with advanced technology still be considered handmade? Neta also addresses questions of aesthetics, abundance (how much is too much?), and functionality, examining jewellery as a vital element that complements the holistic appearance of an individual seeking to define their unique identity.
In my work, I explore the boundaries between object and individual, examining how form, materials, and methods of creation connect to human essence. By integrating 3D design and printing technologies with diverse materials and traditional jewellery-making techniques, I challenge the distinction between machine-made and handmade artistry: can an object designed and created using advanced technology still be considered handmade?
I am also intrigued by how jewellery functions beyond its aesthetic value—how it enhances an individual's presence and expresses their unique identity. Through my pieces, I aim to provoke reflection on notions of abundance (how much is too much?), functionality, and jewellery's potential to act as an extension of the self.
