LUCY SHORTMAN
Cluster Photography Residency Winner | Residency Journal | 2021
We welcomed Lucy Shortman as the winner of our first Photography Artist-in-Residence Programme.
None of this would be possible without the help of our official partner Cre8 Studios London,
who provided everything needed for Lucy to thrive.
Before you continue be sure to check her previous work
and the brief interview about Getting to know her.
This is Lucy’s visual residency diary:
WEEK 1
Play some music for more wholesome feel:
Welcoming photography artist, such as Lucy, we had to prepare for generous amount of visual content.
And Lucy started delivering from day one.
The first few days the weather was quite rainy outside: perfect time for settling in and generous amounts of reading and research.
During Lucy’s stay in the Cluster Studio we had yet another guest: Claudia Lepick, the winner for our Jewellery Artist-in-Residence Programme. Both of them shared pretty similar interests, so it was just a matter of time before the two of them decided to make a collaboration…
All the indoor activities meant one thing, it was time to start the editing process.
Luckily the rain didn’t last that long and the sun came back around the middle of the week.
Meaning only one thing: it was time for Museums and Galleries!
The first was The Graduation Showcase of University of Arts London
By the end of the first week Lucy and Claudia managed to get a coffee together. It was already clear that the two of them were up for something…
Lucy started her editorial sessions with Irene Fortino about photo retouch and editing. This was a solid 4 and half long talk, but everything was completely worth it.
To celebrate the finish of her first week in our Residency, Lucy went for inspirational Saturday walk around London centre.
WEEK 2
Heading into a strong start of week two, Lucy already started working on her collaborative project with our Jewellery resident Claudia Lepik.
Walking the streets will always be a great source of inspiration.
Also the new week meant it was time for new Gallery visitation.
This week Lucy went to The Photographers' Gallery.
WEEK 3
Just like that we entered week number 3 without noticing.
Lucy wanted to visit the Graduation Show of Arts University Bournemouth at Truman Brewery.
The new week also meant new photo-shoot:
We also arranged a visitation in the amazing studio of our partners Cre8 Studios London!
Lucy received generous amounts of support, help and advices.
At this point it was all about photo-shoots and editing:
It was weekend, Cluster Crafts was having an amazing workshop about “Place-Making”,
in collaboration with 100 Chairs and Kolektiv at the Southbank of London.
Lucy, of course, was more than happy to join us.
Starting from Day One we were receiving almost daily Lucy’s leg-selfies.
All images somehow managed to share separate story from Lucy’s daily activities.
That’s why we decided they deserve independency and designated focus.
We present to your attention:

WEEK 4
It was almost like a tradition by now to start the new week with a Museum visitation.
This week it was TATE Modern.
After inspirational day spent in TATE it was time for more research and editing in the Cluster studio.
Finishing the day with a nice company in the local park.
Heading to the final days of Lucy’s Residency stay with even more photo-shoots and editing.
It was time for Lucy to leave, marking the end of our first ever Photography Artist-in-Residence Programme.
We are absolutely stunned by her amazing talent and energy. Cannot wait to share with you her finished project.
Stay tuned in the following days we will share information about Lucy’s upcoming solo exhibition!
