STINA SIQIONG WEN
Cluster Contemporary Jewellery Exhibitor | December 2024
Stina (Sigiong) Wen earned her Master of Fine Arts in Jewellery from the Savannah College of Art and Design and currently thrives as a custom fine jewellery designer based in New York. While her undergraduate studies focused on traditional metalsmithing techniques, Stina's true passion lies in exploring unconventional materials and drawing inspiration from her daily surroundings, which greatly influence her creative process.
During her graduate studies, Stina achieved a remarkable breakthrough by inventing her distinctive SOFT CONCRETE jewellery, which challenges the traditional properties of concrete. Her innovative designs create dynamic interactions between the wearer and the observer, captivating through both visual and tactile appeal.
Stina has been featured in British Vogue as a jewellery designer, and her work has been exhibited at New York Jewellery Week, Milano Jewellery Week, the Russia Contemporary Jewellery Exhibition, the Romania International Jewellery Fair, and various international online exhibitions.
Jewellery is a tool I use to explore the inner self. I strive to convey the visual and tactile qualities of jewellery through contrasting colours and alternative materials, sharing moments of serendipity. As a child, I used touch to explore the world around me, and with my jewellery, I aim to evoke that same sense of curiosity, encouraging intuitive touch. This approach provokes dynamic interactions between the wearer and viewer, both visually and physically.

In this body of work, my goal is to awaken sensory interaction. Growing up in an urban environment where the natural and industrial coexist harmoniously has given me a unique perspective. I am dedicated to discovering my own definition of serendipity through daily studio practice, believing that if you pay close attention to something, you can always find beauty in it.
I primarily work with concrete, which to me is not austere or bland but a flexible, shapeable material. I manipulate it in my own way to challenge perceptions of its softness, tactility, and transparency. The transformation of the material from coarse to soft intrigues viewers, encouraging them to see and touch my jewellery.
