THE POLSKA TRAVELLER
Cluster Contemporary Jewellery Exhibitor | December 2024
To interrogate these narratives, Lun began growing crystals and mycelium on found objects, such as insect specimens, blurring their original identities. These crystallized insects are incorporated into designs inspired by the British Hong Kong Coat of Arms, exploring themes of colonialism and parasitism through the transformation of materials.
Sau-Lun Yeung is a multidisciplinary artist who combines traditional silversmithing and jewellery-making techniques with found objects and bio-materials to create contemporary jewellery and art pieces.
His research project, Cabinet of Symbiosities, explores the relationship between the UK and British Hong Kong through experimental practices that merge scientific inquiry with jewellery art. While collecting found objects in London, Lun discovered that many items, such as specimens and ceramics, bear colonial symbols and originate from outside the UK.
A recent graduate of the Jewellery and Metal programme at the Royal College of Art, Lun's award-winning collection, Cabinet of Symbiosities, was exhibited at @theforgespace, and he has been invited to join @thesocietyofbritishjewellers.
Founded in 2011, his artisan jewellery brand, @thepolskatraveller, originated in Hong Kong and has been showcased internationally in cities including Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, the UK, and Germany.
