BEAUTY OF FLAWS | 2021

Xiaotong Guo was born in a small city in eastern China, it wasn't until she came to Savannah College of Art and Design that she embarked on her jewelry journey. She completed master's degree in jewelry. Xiaotong chose this path because she realized that jewelry is a language for her, an interesting, multi-layered, unrestricted, and borderless language. It became her way to share. The more she takes in, the more she wants to express and “speak” to others through her language, jewelry.

I have often wondered, what is perfection? Is imperfection a failure? How could I be perfect? These questions go back to my childhood when I was repeatedly told that only the pursuit of perfection is worthwhile. I always felt that there was an invisible standard pushing me towards achieving perfection in life.

BEAUTY OF FLAWS NECKLACE | 2021

I strive to create a perfect collision of beauty and imperfection using jewelry, symbolising my connection with nature. Perfect imperfections exist naturally in nature and all of humanity.

IMP.IV BROOCH | 2021

I feel achieving perfection is nearly impossible, however, my experiences with nature have proven that imperfections are all around me… and they are beautiful. I discovered that naturally occurring, imperfect, eye-catching, and beautiful accidents bring individuality, diversity, and beauty to everything. Cultivating beauty in these imperfections has become a passion that drives me forward. I carefully incorporate those discarded/abandoned natural objects into my work to elevate and redefine the beauty of imperfection.
