FROM INVISIBLE TO VISIBLE

Zhuwei Lu was born in a suburb of Shanghai, China. After graduating from high school, she went to college in Wuhan to study the traditional Chinese art of lacquer. Upon finishing college, she decided to pursue her dream of becoming a jewellery designer and moved to the United States to study jewellery design at the Savannah College of Art and Design.

The new world expanded her perspective, and she learned various techniques, including electroforming, which particularly captivated her. This technique, which transforms the intangible into the tangible and creates fascinating textures, helped her develop her own philosophy of jewellery design through trial and error.

Every person in the world has their own experience of trauma, whether slight or severe. Eventually, they will find a way to reconcile and move forward.

Making jewellery is my way of reconciling with the psychological shadow caused by a traumatic experience. At the same time, jewellery has the power to connect the viewer to the creator, allowing me to convey my beliefs and thoughts through the act of wearing it. I use a specific technique, electroforming, to create jewellery that helps me reconcile with my psychological shadow and share my journey of healing with others who have had similar experiences. I hope to encourage them to confront and reconcile with their inner fears.
